I'm trying to legally hire my children for helping out with the business during the summer. I got payroll set up for them, and they are exempt from FUTA and FICA (under 18 working for family business), and they will be making way less than 12K$ so won't pay income tax.
The only thing I cannot figure out is Workers Compensation insurance.
Most places won't cover minors, and I got a quote of 800$ from the NYS Insurance Fund.
I'm about to give up and not take advantage of the tax benefits of hiring my children.

Has anyone figured out how to get a reasonable quote for workers' compensation insurance?

Is that a legal requirement? They're your children, if they get hurt it's unlikely they'll sue you, just take them to the doctor as you would if they got hurt in your house.

yes, I'm legally required to show proof of insurance if I issue them paychecks and W-2

Of course I have no plans of ever submitting any insurance claims and it's very unlikely that they will get hurt by labeling jars :-) Maybe a paper cut LOL

What state is the business registered and operating in?  Regulations can vary from state to state.  This resource might be helpful - https://www.dol.gov/agencies/owcp/wc

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
