Stamps Business

My husband is considering starting a small business buying and selling stamp collections. He inherited a large stamp collection that will take him about a year to sell off, but we're trying to figure out the best way to get more stock. I was thinking he should just create a Facebook page/website and advertise that he's willing to purchase collections. His target audience would be people who inherited Dad's collection and just want to sell it for something and be done. My husband is fairly knowledgeable about stamps and he's done well with it so far. Does anyone have advice on where to start with this? Thanks in advance.

I knew a stamp dealer years ago. He would offer 75 cents on the dollar for collections and resell at face value, or face value plus X %. I think he did well, though it was pretty labor and knowledge intensive. However, that was before the internet age. I think that eBay might present a formidable market platform.

Thank you, bwall! It's definitely labor and knowledge intensive, but my husband enjoys it. More hobby-turned-business. Yes, eBay makes this much easier these days.

I'm surprised he could sell at face value. I buy old stamps on ebay to use as postage. I only pay about 75% value.
