Finally started my photography business.
« on: March 31, 2017, 10:18:21 AM »
I was just posting pictures on Facebook and had some interest from people for buying pictures and portraits, so I decided to make it official. Applied for an EIN and registered my business. Check out my stuff if you want. Tips and critiques appreciated.

Nice photos! There's also portfolio sites where you can create a free profile to showcase your work, a couple that I've used are coroflot and behance.

Awesome start! I'll have to take a closer look but just off the top of my head I got through the first part of your website and wth your expertise in shooting buildings, and thought it would be a super cool service for you to offer real estate photography.

Especially commercial buildings or high-end residential. Easily something you could add that would differentiate you from regular portrait/nature photography.

I could look in to that. We don't have as much demand for that around here. Not like Florida and California, but that could also be a nice post FIRE gig. Some of those multi million dollar house listings look like resorts.

develop your skills and portfolio now, be "the" photographer for those shots and get people to pay your travel costs :)

Some website feedback:

You could use a good copy editor. Sounds like you can't decide if the site's about you, the photographer, or about "the business" as if you're trying to make it sound bigger. Things like "see below" without a link are silly.

Are you primarily an art photographer trying to sell prints, or are you primarily trying to get portrait bookings? The focus of the website should change depending on your answer, and right now since it's trying to do both (plus "professional services") it sounds like you're not experienced enough at any of them to know, which is going to turn off a lot of customers. Make the main page all about what you want to do the most of, and then if you really want to include other services, put them on secondary pages or something so they aren't front and center.

Site takes way too long to load. Saw it was on Wix, that explains it. I've never been to a fast Wix site.

The headline in your hero image is lame.  Sounds like 90s internet.  If I don't know what your business is about in the first 10 words, I'm out.

About the Business section - Way too much text here. This needs to be on a separate page.  tl;dr, as they say.

Professional Services - What does this header even mean.

Finally, at the bottom of the page, you begin to hint at what you do with the different sliders. Speaking of, you have too many sliders.

You need to sum up who you are as succinctly as possible, and make the MAIN THINGS about your service and who you are the headers.  People can always click and go to another page if they want to read paragraphs of information. No one wants to read when they're scrolling through a home page on their phone.

Your pictures are good though  :)

Yeah the website needs work. It's 90% Wix created, I just used their template and changed a few of the words to make it work for me, then added my pictures. I was just hoping to get my information out there if someone wanted book time. Thanks for the honest advice.
