Sweater repair

Is this sweater repairable? I have minimal sewing skills, but I'm willing to give it a try.

It looks mendable to me!  If it were my sweater I would hand sew it back together because the machine would be a little too heavy-handed.  It might not look exactly the way it did before it sprouted a hole if you get up close and look for the patch job, but 99% of people would never notice that.

Definitely mendable.  Use some white thread and use your need to catch ALLL the little loose "loops".  Once you cinch it together a hole this small will be practically invisible.

Thanks for your great suggestions. I'm going to give it a try. I mean, what do I have to lose? The sweater is ruined if I don't do it, so I might as well try.

You want to find yarn (not thread) that is similar in color and weight to that in the sweater.  Split plies if you have to to get it fine enough.  Use a yarn needle (it is fatter than a thread needle, and blunt rather than sharp).  Then just try to duplicate the path that the yarn travels in a row, starting off to the side in the undamaged section: up from behind in a lower loop, down thru the front of the corresponding upper loop, up from behind in the next upper loop, back down into the same lower loop you started in, up thru the next lower loop, ...

Keep going until you are into the undamaged section on the opposite side, and repeat on other rows as needed.

OK, it's not done perfectly, but now I know for next time. I didn't use yarn, just thread, but I did use a blunt needle, which made a big difference. It's not a sweater DS wears often, and it looks fine at a distance. But now I know how to do it better the next time!
