Small Business Website / Employee Portal
« on: November 15, 2019, 12:50:39 PM »
I am in the process of helping my cousin build a website for her new company.  Long-story short, she needs a basic portal that employees can sign into, see a calendar of events available for selection, request an event, she gets notified and approves / not approves.  Once approved, it then shows up in said employees list of scheduled events.

A lot of the website builders I have looked into so far (Wix, Squarespace) have basic login mechanisms and whatnot.  It's the calendar event selection that seems to be the difficult part.  This is all a manual process for her right now over email and the phone.  And it's beginning to become difficult for her to keep up with.  This seems like pretty common functionality, does anyone have suggestions?  For the record, I work in software and I've built web apps before, but it's been over a decade (I no longer do development, management now).  I've just curious what others have used in building business websites, that are more than just a mere online presence.

I bet there's a Drupal or Wordpress plugin for that.

Use a separate shared calendar away from the website. Sharepoint portal would also work, with an individual login. That is how I am running one now, with a sync to an Outlook shared calendar.

If you have an access point on a public website, you now have an intrusion point.
