Repair Cafe?
« on: March 17, 2015, 08:47:02 PM »
Just wanted to check the Mustachian community to see if anyone been to one of these Repair Cafe. Its a group event where volunteers and non volunteers help each other fix things that are broken from around the house... instead of tossing them out. Here is an article from LA Times about it, I use to live out there but didn't get a chance to go to one. I since have move to Texas and was thinking of starting one out here. Just seeing what people think of the experience if you been to one?

Yep, been to one iny village. It was great to interact and learn useful skills. I offered my mending skills in trade for a minor bike repair. It is not required at all to contribute when asking for a repair, but a lot of "customers" offered their time or some cash for the service. The repair café has been in town for several years now. Could be that the Dutch version differs somewhat from the US version. For everyone that thinks that this is a cool concept but doesn't have one in their town: why not start one yourself!

I've been to two! I love the atmosphere.

Also search for:
-Fixer Fairs (a common alternate name)
-Fixit Clinic (another network that does the same thing but with more of an emphasis on teaching) http://fixitclinic.blogspot.com/
