Awesome that there is such an interest :)
Des1313- Will let you know! Not impressed so far. Went with the Excalibur over the Sedona because if we have a choice, would rather support made in the USA - although made like that, they don't present a good reason. The trays were not fit into the slots when they arrived but crammed into the machine on a tilted angle. We found a screw in the bottom of the machine. Can tell where it came from, (we think) there seems to be a couple of extra screw holes, like they missed it the first time. A dehydrator is a pretty simple piece of equipment so hoping the guts work, otherwise, it is going back. Also, it was suppose to come with one teflex sheet as a sample, And I can't seem to find it. Luckily costco has a good return policy.
I'll pick my mom's brain for recipes to share as well. She dehdydrates her own garden veggies and turns them into a totally awesome instant soup mix. It's pretty awesome, you can feel your body sucking up the nutrients when you drink it :)
She also makes these crackers:
http://rawmazing.com/recipe/chive-cream-cheese-spread-and-veggie-crackers/ They are super amazing, very delicate but everyone who tries em says they taste like veggie crackers USE to taste - like 20 years ago. I've unfortunately had to jump on the gluten-free band wagon so these crackers are a life saver. I just haven't had to make them yet since my mom always does. My turn!
She also makes some really good grain-free granola. I'll have to ask about her recipe :)
W do make dried pears (your right horsepoor they are amazing!) and dried apples. Which is how I managed to burn out both my other cheap, thrift store dehydrators.
I like the idea of dealing with the tomato glut! I grew tomatoes for the frist time last year not really realizing how many tomatoes would come off of 6 plants, and I'm the only one in my house who really likes them fresh:)
