Second hand dishwashers
« on: March 29, 2015, 02:54:39 PM »
Any experience with buying these second hand off CL?

We go ourselves a low end used dishwasher for 80$. No major problems with it except that it's super noisy and doesn't clean that well.

I saw some on CL for about 100$ that are full stainless and with two sets of blades (one at the bottom and one under the top rack). What to look out for? Are some brands better than others for reliability and parts availability?

Thanks,

MrSal

I have bought a couple of dishwashers off of craigslist with great success.  Infact, one was the nicest unit I have ever owned, I think it was like $50.00.

Key is to find some one that drops the keywords  "Color didnt match"

Besides, as long as they dont leak, they are pretty easy to swap out if you get a bum unit.

Good luck,
Dan

We bought a brand new one five years ago that stopped working right after about three to three and a-half years.  I would be concerned about buying one off of CL and having it work.

We bought one in 2011 second hand. It was already a couple of years old by then but we bought it from someone who needed to "upgrade" her appliances. It is still going strong 4 years later, albeit with regular maintenance (cleaning filters etc) from me. So it can be worthwhile doing it.

I got one free off of craigslist a while back.  Someone had upgraded to stainless.  It was still working when we sold that house.

I bought a high-end Bosch off Craigslist last year for $100--it'd been listed for weeks so I lowballed and went and got it that afternoon.  Bosch and Samsung seem to be "high-end" but I don't actually know.

I've been happy with it and it works much better than our old one. My main gripe is that it requires a heated dry cycle which I think is running up our electric bill.  I spent time actually reading the manual this week and am going to experiment with the settings to see if I can cut back it's energy use.

We got a GE Profile Stainless Steel one for less than $100 for our foreclosure house.  It was over $850 new. 4 years later it's still working.  We did have trouble with the wheels falling off the bottom rack - Zip ties solved that problem for about $2.
