Reuse old kitchen faucet?
« on: August 19, 2019, 11:20:22 PM »
I am getting new countertops and a sink and I would love to reuse the faucet. It works like a champ. I'm having a hard time time finding info about how to reinstall it without the deckplate. I'm getting butcher block countertops and cutting all the holes myself. I'm open to getting another deckplate but there is no need to cover other holes because there won't be any others. Another complication is that the sink swivels on a rubber gasket. Any suggestions?

Most faucets come with an two escutcheon plates depending if you have one or three holes. I'm guessing the one for a single hole is long gone by now. I would guess they might be fairly standard sizes (especially between manufacturers) so you might find a single one in a junk pile of old faucets that could be made to work. Personally, the faucet really dates things and I would spring for a new modern faucet especially since you are already getting a new countertop. The old one isn't old enough yet to be back in vogue.

lol, I appreciated that.

I've had decent luck with Moen over the years.

Kohler and Delta have also been fine. basically just dont but the 'private label' ones anything mid range on price should perform fine.

Kohler has been fantastic with warranty repairs.  We replaced our kitchen faucet with a pull out spray/stream Kohler in '07.  In the intervening 12 years they've replaced the screw on spray/stream end twice (it gets clogged over time and there's no way to clean it), and sent us a new hose too, all under warranty - I emailed them with a description of the problem, and the new part was sent within a day.

We also have Hansgrohe in our master bath.  They've replaced the pop up sink drains with a new style after one of the originals failed, and the shower handle was also replaced under warranty.

As for Moen, the original builder grade stuff, installed in '88 in our powder room and guest bath, have never caused any problems.  Hmmm...

I have used Moen brand lately and never had a problem with it. I do caution that you try and refrain from buying it in big box stores as even Moen (along with other brands) make a cheap line to sell exclusively there. I usually use their website to find the model I want and order it via Amazon or other website. They are much better quality than the ones in Lowes/Home Depot/Menards.

I bought a Delta at Lowe's a year ago, I have not been happy because adjusting the handle for warm water is very finicky. Hot and cold, easy. But it is a two handed operation to fine tune the handle position to get warm water. Yesterday I got fed up and called Delta, the first rep told me about an orange adjustment under the handle. Turns out that orange adjustment just limits the high temp of the water drawn. Maybe handy for some but, not for me. So I called back and got another rep, he said he would send out a new cartridge. He was a little non committal about whether that would fix the problem. I'm wondering if it's just a characteristic of the new unit with the high temp limit.
I'll find out when I get the new cartridge.
Good service, they never ask about purchase date.
