I just bought this.. amazing!

This multitool acts as a plunge cutter... it literally makes a plunge cut just slightly wider than the blade.. as you can see where it sawed into the bench table leg.

This is fantastic for cutting out wood that is trapped on three sides but you don't want to damage any of that wood.

You can get blades to cut metal (nails for example)

It was on sale for $15 from Harbor Freight.. Blades are a little spendy but its one of those must have tools.

Oscillating multi-tool. Definitely a favorite in my arsenal. The saw blade is awesome, but scraper blades and the corner sander attachment are incredibly handy too.

I use my oscillating multi tool all the time as well, especially for interior trim work. Lay a scrap piece of your new flooring up to a door jam and set your blade flush on the top to cut door jams to the perfect height. I also use it a lot when doing drywall work to cut out electrical box holes or other fixtures. I did a false ceiling in the basement last winter and used it to trim all the panels to size.

As the blades are a little spendy I am thinking I might be able to tack weld a piece of sawzall blade on the end off a dull blade. I can cut the blade sections on my little chop saw no problem so in theory a quick tack with the mig welder should restore the blade..

Should work for cutting nails etc.

I would be surprised if this worked well. First, you could only cut anything the depth of the overlap between old blade and new blade before the old blade hung up. Second, a saws-all blade is designed for probably a couple thousand strokes per minute versus a oscillating multi-tool which probably is closer to 20,000 strokes per minute. I doubt you would get the same life.

Meh, very unimpressed with mine. Cuts slow, blades wear very fast, doesn't do anything I can't do better/faster with other tools; collecting dust in shop cabinet now. On the plus side this post has reminded me to create a craigslist/ebay listing.

I got one at HD - I loved it on day one, but the battery wears out way too fast for my uses. Were I to replace it, I would look for a corded version. It is very useful with trim and hardwood projects though (as already noted).

Haven't tried it on drywall yet, but I have a couple jobs coming up where I may use it. I can see it working really well for retrofitting outlet boxes

The thin blades cut nicely through, but I can't say how it does on lathe. My project hit beaverboard behind the plaster. No lathe at all.

Yes. Worked great on plaster and lathe. I would not use a recip saw on plaster and lathe unless you want a big repair job.

As for the tool, I use one fairly often. I use a dremel and have used a Milwaukee cordless as well.  The harbor freight version hasn't held up as well, the blades wear out faster, and the blades weren't interchangeable between brands.

I use it for drywall - cutting out boxes, undercut door jambs for flooring, scraper tool for cleaning up construction adhesive on wood you are reusing, and other plunge cuts where a recip would cause too much damage to get started.

I have that exact model.  Worked great for cutting recesses in the shower wall studs so the shower pan liner will fit flush against the studs.

Now I need to see if they make blades to cut ceramic tiles.
