Repairing a Sofa Bed / Sleeper Sofa - any suggestions?
« on: March 07, 2016, 01:04:16 PM »
I have a queen sized sofa bed in a furnished rental and the most recent guests really did a number on it, among other things :/

I am hoping to get a couple of more years out of the sofa.  It is in good shape except the sleeper bottom has been busted through on each side (both sides look like the picture).  I did find this repair kit online ( http://www.bedframeparts.com/temporary-hiding-beds/sleeper-sofa-repair-kits/hospitality-bed-max-plus-leggett-platt-sleeper-sofa-repair-kit.htm ) which is basically what I need, but wow, $190 for some springs and what looks like a tarp?!

I did find where I could buy the springs for $15.  I haven't actually seen the bed in person since it has been broken so I am holding out hope we could put some new grommets in and use the existing mat.

I have googled and found nothing DIY for this kind of repair if we have to replace the bottom part.  I was hoping someone here might have some ideas before I invested $200 or go out and buy a new sofa.  Thanks for any ideas!!!

In order to re-use the existing "tarp", you'd probably need to bust out the sewing machine and repair/reinforce the edge at that corner.  A grommet straight into the main section of fabric is likely to tear out in short order.

Thanks for your input!  Makes sense.

The cleaning service also found the people burned a cigarette hole in one of the cushions, so it is looking less and less salvageable.
