cat litter
« on: September 26, 2018, 12:35:24 PM »
We recently went from one cat to two, and they both had diarrhea at the same time. The odor absorbing litter is $9.50 for an 8 lb bag, stupid money! So we switched to sawdust pellets that they use as horse bedding. $7 for a 50 lb bag, sprinkle liberally with baking soda in the cat box.

Smells fine, cleans easy, biodegradable, and damn cheap. I only wish we'd tried it sooner.

I'd caution you on is dust, which can irritate their lungs/sinuses and cause problems. If you end up spending all that litter savings on vet bills, that's not a win. Also, if it's PINE dust, no. There's issues with pine and toxicity for cats, and while I haven't sorted out what's ok and whats not, I've just decided no pine. Makes it easier.

Holy, Sibley! Thanks for the info. I had no idea. I will check what the pellets are made from.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
