Old Slow Android Tablet Any way to reformat? - Asus TF201
« on: August 03, 2016, 10:31:55 AM »
5 or so years ago I got an Asus Transformer Prime Tablet. Ever since I received it its been laggy and slow. I should have returned it but I never did. It basically collects dust and is never used. Its Android based. We rooted it, and installed lagfix which runs automatically to clear the cache or whatever. This sometimes helps, but browsing is still painfully slow. Clicking on a link you have to wait like 5-10 seconds for anything to load. Its dreadful. I have no idea if this is a function of the tablet features itself or the operating system.

I've always had PC's never a tablet. So I don't really understand the in's and outs. I know on PC's you can reformat to Linux, etc which can run smoother than Windows on outdated old laptops. I was wondering if there was something similar I can do to fix the tablet. Its worth basically nothing so I'd rather get it useable at least for internet browsing rather than sell it on ebay for <$50. Any advice?

You might be able to install a different ROM on the tablet. That's not really for beginners but I'm sure it'd be possible.

Are you sure it isn't your wireless setting or wireless router itself? Have you replaced your wireless router recently to the newer standard? Using the internet connection takes very little computing power so I would guess it is one of those two things I mentioned.

Rescue any saved files and return it to factory fresh? Still laggy?

My older Samsung gets laggy sometimes if I haven't used it for a while. It needs a reboot and I have removed some of the apps I added and only used a couple of times. This morning for example it is perfect.
