I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I'm having a sliding glass door put into my house on Thursday. Currently, there is an return air duct directly in the wall where the door will go. I've hadbad luck on Angie's list, with people either not calling back or one estimate coming in quite high ($600 to move it)
Please comment on my options as I see them below:
1. Move the duct myself, sawing a hole into the floor near the current wall placement. I have no experience doing this and have no idea how hard it is to do.
2. Just tear the sucker out and let it suck air freely from the basement until I get a better estimate
3. Tear it out and seal the return up, letting the other returns in the house make up for it.
I have no experience in HVAC so any comments on these choices would be highly valuable to me. Thanks!

4. Research on the Internet until you figure out how to do it properly (sideways through the basement and then up through the plate into an appropriate spot on the wall, so that it remains consistent with the rest of your ducts)
Floor vents suck since stuff can fall in them.
2.5., tear it out, seal it up, then get a better estimate to have it fixed properly is the best runner up behind 4, IMO.
