Dry vent coming off
« on: June 25, 2017, 07:32:09 PM »
Of course, the dryer vent keeps popping off. And of course, it's just me with tiny muscles. It's a gas dryer. I have access from the side of the dryer. The connection is a hard plastic that's attached (firmly) to the flexible metal foil (I assume that's what it is). It slides onto the connection in the back of the dryer, but it's not staying.

I'm guessing that regular duct tape will just melt and come off. I have some special, high heat duct tape that my mom gave me and we used for the other end of the vent. Might that work to hold it on?

Typically there is a little wire band clamp as shown in the link below that holds all of the temporary connections together in a dryer vent. You could also use a large enough hose clamp for the purpose. I would use HVAC foil insulation tape rather than any kind of duct tape because the adhesive won't be affected by the heat at all.

You are talking about the vent hose and not the gas line correct?

If so, these are the clamps people normally use:

Put it over the hose before you attach it, then once attached, move it into position and tighten it with a screwdriver.  Make sure you get about three coils of the flexible hose over that plastic piece so you have enough space to clamp it down.  You need it over by about an inch, so the clamp isn't just sitting on the edge.

Just did this a few weeks ago when I moved to my house, so I know what a pain in the ass it is.  Getting that stupid hose around the vent takes some twisting and a little muscle, all while trying not to tear the hose.

Yes, vent hose, not the gas line. Gas line is fine.

I'll get a clamp and see if I can pull the dryer out a bit to give me some more room to work with. If nothing else, I'll be able to finish painting the wall back there!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
