My blower motor stopped working. I just tested the run capacitor and I got zero microfarads when touching the probes of the digital multimeter to the 2 terminals on the capacitor.

The cap is just a year old.

Also tested the Ohms across the 2 terminals, and it never moved off of 1.

All I can think of is that the motor shorted out, which shorted out the capacitor.  The motor won't come on even though it is getting 120 volts (or 240) , even if I give it a spin to start it.

I'm starting to think the multimeter is malfunctioning. I tested a known 5 micro farad used capacitor, and it tested at zero micro farads. Frustrating. I checked the battery in the multi and it's fine. 9.1 Volts.

I don't know about multimeters (or electricity in general - it's sort of my kryptonite topic in physics), but I do know that starter caps go bad on air conditioners, usually after a number of years.  I assume you're talking about a similar idea on a furnace.  Only one year old seems unusual but not impossible.

I'm sure others with more experience will be along shortly with a better answer.

One DIY idea would be to buy a replacement cap with the same electrical statistics and swap it out to see if the problem goes away.  Just be sure to deenergize the caps properly when you work on them so you don't injure yourself; you probably knew that part.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
