I cut down a large brach in the backyard
« on: August 18, 2016, 12:58:31 PM »
I often wondered why it's so expensive to hire a tree cutting service. I cut down a large branch that was hanging into my neighbors yard. I think it took about 5-6 hours total. It's more labor intensive than I thought. I bought an electric chainsaw for $80.

15 minutes to cut down the main branch
2 hours to cut branches off of the main branch while on the ground
2 hours breaking the larger branches into smaller branches, so garbage will haul away
1 hour hauling the small branches to the curb

I had a pile a little bit bigger than a full bed of a pick-up truck. The trash service charged me $70.

Some tree work is tricky and/or dangerous, especially when close to homes.  After the tree is laying on the ground it's pretty safe, but still a good bit of work to cut and clear away the mess.  If you live in town hauling the wood to the curb or to the dump is work.  If you offer to give the wood away for firewood you can probably save yourself a lot of work & the dump expense.

I hope you researched how to properly trim or cut a tree branch.  You can kill a tree trimming improperly.

Well the guy you hire needs to be insured so that any damage he causes can be fixed. He has more equipment than just an electric chainsaw. Typically they have a shredder, truck, flatbed, office, secretary, crew, etc. Because they usually have a couple guys on the payroll and they work much quicker. I hired one to remove seven entire trees all dead/dying and all within spitting distance of my house. He completely removed all of them in about four hours and had the stumps ground down and the areas leveled out in another four hours.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
