Do some capacitors come from factory with small bulge on top?
« on: February 20, 2023, 03:06:03 PM »
I removed an oval 10 microfarad 370 VAC oval capacitor from my air handler and I noticed it has a small 1/8 inch diameter bump on the flat part of the end, where the terminals are.

Is this normal?   It looks sort of like a blob of solder they put there on purpose.

Thanks

Google the model and part number for an image.

Not oval, but do you mean something like this?

Yes and no. The cap in your pic has a man made recess, and some blob on top of the recessed area.

My cap has a blob right on top of the flat area. No man made recess.

I was able to take a fuzzy pic of my cap. See attached.

Giles, good idea. Thanks. I was able to see some front views of my cap in google, but my computer was not able to go into the websites to see the end view.

I was able to take a pic of the bulge in my cap. See my previous post.

I think they serve the same purpose, sealing the last bit of access to the interior of the capacitor at the end of the manufacturing process.

This video https://youtu.be/NSvxE-wyVyg?t=98 talks about welding the hole that is used to fill the oil.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
