How to fix wood floor
« on: October 17, 2019, 08:45:37 PM »
I was hoping that the original floor extended through the whole laundry room. But it stops half way
I can't tell if someone pulled it out or the other side of the laundry room was an addition or what. The perpendicular wood is adjacent to the inner wall. The other size is exterior wall.
I could take out the non original wood and replace it with 3/4 plywood.  The plan is to refinish the original wood (lighter color). Any suggestions? I will be able to get a better pic tomorrow if necessary.

Is the non-original wood damaged? if not, I don't see any reason to take it out and replace with plywood.  I would refinish the original wood as planned and then put flooring of choice over the rest.  If its a laundry room, tile would be a good choice for water resistance, but would be a significant threshold bump.  You could also do a click lock vinyl that would be waterproof, easy to install, and thin for a minimal threshold.

Huh, you would cover the non original wood. It looks fine, just dirty. What kind of transition strip would you use?

I agree that its dirty, but also looks like there is some adhesive from prior flooring and gaps.  Just a lot of work to clean it up.

They sell step down transitions to match the flooring that you purchase.  Similar to this:

This.

Trying to match the original floor can be very difficult and is a pain to get to look right.  It is not something a beginning DIY person should attempt, and I hesitate to do it myself as a remodeler. I do have a flooring guy that does a solid job, but it still isn’t perfect.
