Fixed my gas oven for $29.62
« on: July 30, 2022, 04:30:13 PM »
We have an LG gas stove that we bought in 2010. A couple of weeks ago it started giving us F11 errors when preheating. Google said the most likely cause was a bad igniter, so I found a compatible part on Amazon for <$30, compared to $160 for the OEM part.

It took maybe 40 mins to disassemble the oven, install the new part, clean things up and put it back together. The oven went from 0F to 350F in 12 minutes, which Google says is approx 3 mins less than average. I call that a win.

Nice one!  I'm not super-skilled when it comes to DIY, but I've gotten a lot of satisfaction with appliances.  If you can tell what part is bad and it has a part number on it, it's amazing to me both how cheap many parts are and how easy they are to install.  And it's wild to think that the alternative is either hiring a repair person (at likely a few hundred bucks) or replacing the appliance.

Yes and how many appliances just go the dump b/c of a $25 part. Same with cars.

Our ice maker quit recently. With a little encouragement from someone's success/adventure here in the forums and a little YouTube help I gave it a shot and its still working. For free in fact. Was just iced up. Gave it a good cleaning and put it back together.

Congrats Dave!
