Home Energy Resource

Hey all, I just toured this place last week (Cold Climate Housing Research Center).  It's awesome.  They do a ton of research on heat sources for homes, insulation, etc.  One of their new projects is a 25,000 gallon underground water tank that they plan to use as a thermal battery to collect solar heat all summer and dissipate it through the winter.

They even have about a dozen house plans - free!  It's gov't funded, so all in the public domain.  So if you're remodeling or building and looking for energy efficient ideas for heating systems, check it out!

I can't find anything about a 25,000 gallon tank.
Where is that on the site?

They just had it installed, and this summer will be the first time they use it and start collecting data.  I think the trial will last for 3 years, then they'll publish the data.  They said several people in town have smaller tanks (~1000 gallon) and can heat their homes until about December from the stored thermal energy.
