Has anyone purchased windows from windowestore.com?

Would love to hear from anyone who has purchased windows from windowestore.com. Love the idea of buying windows direct, but should I tread carefully?

I just entered an order on a window that I'm familiar with, and have used a lot of in the last few years. A single hung, driftwood colored, basic low-e and argon filled, double glazed 40"x60" unit with internal grilles. This is a new construction unit. I used the company's zip code to mitigate most shipping charges. My windows come from a local supplier and are Simonton brand. A nationally known product with a great reputation for honoring their warranty and providing service after the sale. My cost from your online source is $454 each. I pay less than half of that, at $220 for a Simonton.

It's your money, but be aware that windows are like mattresses. They cost X to produce, and you pay Y. You might pay a mark-up of enough for everybody in the transaction to make a fair profit, or you might buy the same product for three, four, even six times that amount. Sadly, a significant percentage of homeowners doing replacement windows end up get screwed.

Thanks, appreciate the information - very instructive. I read online that Simonton makes windows for windowestore, no idea if true or not.

Do you happen to recommend any particular manufacturer for casement windows, as well as french patio doors?

I have installed very few casement windows, mostly due to regional tastes that skew heavily toward double-hungs.  Of the ones I did, Anderson and Simonton both had decent products.  When it comes to French doors, I would install whatever Anderson product suits your budget. If you are talking a true French, with both doors active, I am not a fan, and generally succeeded in talking the customer out of them. They tend to be finicky, and never seem to remain perfectly adjusted or well sealed, in the fairly harsh climate of the PA. mountains. where I live. Anderson, and maybe others, have a well designed adjustable hinge system that at least gives you a chance to address the frequent issues that French door can suffer from. Generally, I would avoid all vinyl doors when it comes to big openings, in particular, lower end vinyl sliders can be a real PITA over time.

Since vinyl windows now dominate the market, and they are all very similar in construction, and fairly low cost to produce,  it is possible to find good ones, relatively cheaply, if you research and shop aggressively. OTOH, when it comes to things like French doors and sliding patio doors, I don't think the same is true. More expensive, name brand doors, in the middle of a company's product line,  seem to be worth the extra cost, over time.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
