Gas Range Won't Light.
« on: August 23, 2014, 11:37:38 PM »
I have a used gas range that is having two different lighting issues with three burners.  All burners click when the knobs are in the light positions.

Here are the issues:

One burner sparks but it will not light.  I cleaned out the little gas hole with a needle, but still no light.  I can see the spark!

The other two, both on the right hand side of the stove, click but do not spark.  From my research, it may be the spark module.  Is there any way to check if this is the problem.  Also, could one module cause both right side burners to not light?  Or does each burner have their own module?

Thank y'all so much for the help!

Do the burners light with a match?  If so, look at the flame pattern in particular the flames near the ignitor tips.  See if the burners come apart for cleaning.  The slightest amount of crud or debris can affect how the flames work.

If all the burners check out, then I would suspect the ignitor.  Usually there's one ignitor and several points.  Any loose connections will affect how well it works.

Greg,

Thanks for the help.

I did get them clean, but still no spark.  I tried to lift the top off so that I could look at the ignitor but I am not able to get it off.  I gave up and called our appliance repair guy because we need to pass section 8 inspection tomorrow.  I am bummed.

Good news is that DH is going to watch the appliance guy do it so from now on, we can fix it ourselves.
