garbage disposal woes
« on: May 30, 2020, 07:41:22 PM »
Dear wife says "garbage disposal isn't working."

I clear it out from the top. Nothing seems to be obviously blocking/clogging it. I use a small piece of wood to put in the disposal and turn the mechanism. It turns without extra effort.
I unplug/replug it in. reset the red bottom on the bottom. I run water and turn it on. I get a loud "waaa-waaa" noise that sounds like an engine trying to turn - but don't hear/see any rotation in the disposal.
I get out a big allen wrench and am able to turn the mechanism from the bottom - again, it doesn't seem like much effort. It moves freely and I turn it several complete revolutions.
Try to run water and turn it on - again I get "waaa-waaa" noise. Am afraid I am going to burn out the motor, so I switch it off after about 3 seconds.

What's next?

Have you turned it in both directions?  Wiggle it back and forth 1/4 rotations each way. I’ve had to mess with them 5-6 times to finally get it all free.

Thanks - discovered that several of the little pockets around the edges there were popcorn seeds and a few lemon seeds. Tricky to get them out, but once I did it was fixed.
