Gap below flashing on roofline
« on: June 05, 2022, 02:26:40 PM »
Should I plug up a gap below this flashing along the roof line with stucco?

Here is another photo https://imgur.com/a/xM20ir9, the MMM forum gave me an error that the second photo file size was too big. The area is above the garage in the upper left hand side, that piece of metal sticking out is the flashing.

It could be the main entrance for the Rodent Motel.

Good?  Or possibly bad?  I can’t tell what I’m looking at either, and whether that gap serves a function (intentional or not).

…hope it works

Usually any "gap below flashing" is meant to be left open for moisture to drain out. I'm not sure if this was the case in the picture your provided because like others, I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at. Since you already filled it, I would continue to monitor the area below for stucco peeling or flaking off due to trapped moisture so that you can open it back up if needed before the damage gets too extensive.

Was it causing issues before you filled it in?

it was not causing any issues, just working on the house before I hire painters.

Right. If the gap was intentional then it was doing its job, facilitating air flow and moisture out from the wall cavity. Now it can’t.

Or the stucco render was just a sloppy job, and filling it won’t change anything.

Did you at least have a contractor and or roofer come out to take a look and to get a second opinion?

If the concern is with rodents, I would have just stapled/nailed some wire mesh up there to exclude them.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
