Furniture slider/carpet protector ideas?
« on: October 16, 2021, 11:58:56 PM »
Anyone put anything under the feet of their furniture to help protect/prolong carpet? Like pieces of carpet sample for instance? Any ideas?

Just google felt pads at your favorite store.  I have used several brands as furniture that moves, like chairs at a dining table, need replacing every few years.  They come with adhesive so you just stick them on.  Here is one brand:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Scotch-32-Pack-1-in-Brown-Round-Felt-Pad/1000093225
They come in all shapes and sizes.

When I want to move a larger piece of furniture, like a bureau, I use these sliders:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Scotch-Scotch-8482-16-Piece-FURNITURE-MOVING-KIT-SP659-NA/1002651856
I just put them on, move the furniture, and take them off to save for another time.

It the felt pads are great for hard floors but I don't think they work that well on carpet... Especially the more plush it is. I'm looking for something I can put underneath heavier furniture that's sitting on carpet to avoid putting such drastic 'holes' and 'dents' in it.

If it's wool carpet a bit of damp and a warm iron will help the carpet spring back into place, but if you google "castor cups" you might find what you are looking for.

I don’t remember what they’re called but I’ve got fuzzy covers for the wheels on my piano. I think it came as a set - there were hard sliders for moving it and then the fuzzy ones to keep it from damaging the carpet. Look at the hardware store because that’s where I bought them, right next to those stick on things for hard floors.

I've never had problem "undenting" carpet even after years of the same piece of furniture sitting there. Like someone mentioned above, steaming the area will cause it to spring right back. I have always rented a steam cleaning vacuum anyway prior to moving into a new home but an iron would work too if you are careful not to scorch anything. When moving out, it has always been someone  else's problem.

For things like couches where the legs are hidden from view, we've had good luck using cottage cheese lids. The couch slides easily for cleaning under it and the dents are less severe and tend to pop out after shampooing. You can also buy plastic slider disks made to the purpose at most hardware stores. The benefit of these is they come in neutral colors made to blend in to the most popular carpet colors.

I happen to love magic sliders.  They live invisibly under every piece of furniture I have that sits on a rug.  I like to be able to move all my furniture with just a push from my knee.

I use felt for all the pieces on wood.
