Twin Tub Washing Machine Drier Seal Replacement
« on: February 21, 2013, 06:22:07 AM »
Sorry for bombarding the forum with DIY questions, but our (samsung) twin tub washing machine has decided to go kaput. It isn't a huge problem, but the "buffer seal" on the drier went brittle due to years of use and so water started leaking onto the motor drop by drop which made it stop working. The motor was left to dry a couple of days and it seems to be back in action, thankfully.  However, I'm seriously having a hard time trying to get the buffer seal out which seems to be stuck onto the body with vice grip. The repair guy in our neighborhood asked us to bring the machine down to his shop which I think is ridiculous. I haven't called Samsung service because I know I'll be charged through the nose, although that might be the last option if necessary.

Has someone here had experience replacing this kind of a seal on their drier before? Would you please mind sharing the details of the DIY? I've attached a few pictures of the seal which might give you an idea of how it looks (and also the condition in which it is). The last attached photo is of a similar looking seal I found on a spares website just for an idea of how these seals look.

Appreciate all help!

Please note that when I say "drier", I'm referring to what you'd call a "spin tub", because it doesn't really dry clothes with heat but rather just spins them as dry as possible. We then hang the clothes on a line outside our apartment.
