Flex conduit / EMT Question
«
on:

I can't seem to work my Google-fu and I don't understand the NEC well enough.
Can flex conduit/ MC cable / EMT be run underneath joists, perpendicular to them, secured to the underside?
I have a long run to make in my basement and I want to avoid boring holes through the joists. I'd rather just attach it to the underside.

Yes, you can.
If they're old, dry wood, you're better off using metal stud drywall screws (smaller diameter/fine thread) than wood drywall screws or nails. You'll get less splits.
Flex over 6' needs a ground pulled with it.

Another yes here. I have the misfortune to live in NE Illinois, where EMT is required by code, and all of our EMT is secured to the underside of the joists in the basement.
