Fixing Pilates Ball
«
on:

Hi everybody,
I have a pilates ball that I recently overinflated, resulting in a 1 inch tear. The ball is made by Fitball. According to the manufacturer, it is made from a latex free PVC material. I would like to avoid buying a replacement ball. Can the ball be patched? If so how?
Thanks,
Neil

I think this would be difficult to do. Tape won't hold, most glues will dry hard and inflexible which won't work for what you want. I'd maybe try a bike tube patch kit, but suspect that this is a lost cause.

I would guess an inflatable boat repair patch kit might work, but whether the ball would still work as well for you is certainly an unknown.
Something like this?

Really hard to know since the materials you are working on could interact poorly with the glue, but might be worth a try.

the problem with tears is that they tend to keep tearing, even if patched. If you still want to try, a bicycle tube patch would probably be too small, but you could use an air mattress repair kit (or the boat kit, just saw that) or just some similar polymer and contact cement.

Hi Russ, James, and GuitarStv,
Ir sounds like it will be tough to make a lasting repair on the ball and I might be throwing good money after bad. I will start checking Craig's List, etc. for a replacement ball.
Thanks,
Neil
