Fixing crack in acrylic light panel cover?
« on: August 30, 2019, 06:25:07 PM »
Hey all

I just finished cutting the second panel to fit into a fluorescent light fixture cover to replace the old panels that were yellowed (https://www.homedepot.com/p/2-ft-x-4-ft-Acrylic-White-Cracked-Ice-Lighting-Panel-5-Pack-LP2448WTCIACR-5/205163957). Stupid me was fumbling around too much and dropped it - the edge landed straight on the faucet and a nice split formed from the impact :(

Is there any way to patch the crack or bond everything back together to make it disappear? We just carefully reinstalled it and it's probably fine as-is but knowing that it's there really bothers me knowing I did that. Anyway, just wondering if there's something I could use to bond it back - I tried super glue but that didn't seem to do much. Solvent cement?

Acrylic can be tricky, you'll need to carefully use a solvent that melts and welds the plastic, i see weld-on 4 recommended in a quick Google search

You may still be able to see it if you look, but most people don't stare at fluorescent lights so I wouldn't worry about it
