My place has a fireplace rough in that juts out at the back of the house and looking from the inside is just drywall. A few times a year I get super keen on the idea of drilling a pilot hole in the drywall to see what's going on in there. If it would work out my plan is to just have an electric "fire" instead of gas. I would still need a mantle. There seems there is a spare switch on the wall that could be related to the rough in.
Anyone have experience with this or should I quit pondering, put my drill away and watch the fireplace channel in the winter?
