Finding appliance parts
« on: May 12, 2014, 01:24:42 PM »
I'm looking to repair a broken dishwasher handle. Unfortunately the dishwasher is at least 10 years old, probably more like 15, so parts are hard to find. I'm 95% sure this is what I need. I'm not crazy about this because $89 seems awfully expensive to repair a 15 year old washer. I've Googled around some, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere else.

Anybody know another source for cheaper appliance parts?

I always check eBay now and often find parts cheaper (same for car parts too).  In your case I found:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=AP4390033&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XW10247175&_nkw=W10247175&_sacat=0

Check carefully to make sure it is the right one though...

We've had to replace a similar looking handle (twice) on our 2003 Maytag (which takes Whirlpool parts).  Once we got it on Amazon, and once on eBay.  Both times it was under $20.  That price is insane!

I've had good luck finding part numbers on repairclinic.com and then googling for the part.

For that kind of money, you might be able to pick up a newer, fully-functional dishwasher off Craigslist or Bookoo or Freecycle

I checked out everything last night, but all the sites I could find that definitely had the right part actually cost more than $89. The don't *think* the eBay part is the right one, but it's hard to tell from the photo.

Nonetheless, thanks for the good ideas. I think they will come in handy for future repairs.
