Electric oven running way hot
« on: January 06, 2013, 10:29:55 AM »
I've got a Kenmore electric oven that runs way hot.  We've only owned it a few months (came with our house).  I tried the self-cleaning cycle, and unplugging it/plugging back in, and it still runs hot.  For instance, I just set it for 400 degrees, and when I check the temp on a separate oven thermometer, it's 525 degrees.  The oven even has a calibration feature, and I have that set to the max at -30 degrees!  Anyone have any ideas how to fix this--is it easily DIY or do I need to call a repair person?  It's electronic, not analog.  Thanks!

Our oven runs hot.  No idea how hot, as we don't own a thermometer suitable for it.

We just set everything about 25 degrees under what's specified in the directions/recipe as well as undercook by a few minutes.

Think of it as a good thing: a way to learn when something is done on your own by checking it, rather than being told when it's done. ;)

Have you tried calling Kenmore?  Maybe they are aware of the problem and can send you free parts to fix it.  Manufactures are usually pretty generous.
