Title: DIY Teva soles?

My Tevas are getting pretty worn out at the sole and have fixed it multiple times with "Shoo-goo" and adhesive.  I need to resole them but I don't think Teva will provide new soles (I recall asking years ago). So my challenge to the DYI forum of MMM is what should I resole them with?  I have thought about using tire treads like the sandals in East Africa but thought I'd see if there was an obvious choice I am missing.

That's pretty cool

I know Vibram sells outsoles individually; you might be able to get one close to size and trim it down as in the instructable. That would probably last a good bit longer than the foam pad.

Aren't there any shoe-repair-shops where you live? They're pretty common around here. When I need something resoled, I just bring them there and they take care of the right material and everything. Well, it's not very mustachian I guess, but it has never cost me more than $10 either, and the new soles usually last a lifetime. Meaning that the rest of the shoe wears down first to the point where you can't fix them anymore anyway.

Try Freesole instead of Shoe Goo. It's stronger and lasts longer in my experience.

Thanks everyone for the replies.  I like the idea of using the floor matting for a sole but agree that it may not be as durable.  I will look into this as a base. 
As far as taking them to a shoe repair shop, I could do that but where would the fun and sense of self-reliant, mustachian, accomplishment come from then?

instead of Tevas, buy Chacos... they will resole and repair virtually anything for a fairly reasonable price!

You might be able to bond the xero sandals to the bottom of your tevas. Be sure to get the 6 mm connect version (thicker and sturdier). They come with a 5,000 mile warranty.

I have a pair of these for running/walking and I love them. Can't attest to how they work as a sole replacement though.
