DIY Hydro-jetting?
« on: August 11, 2021, 04:02:18 PM »
Has anyone here, who is not a plumber, [successfully] done their own hydro-jetting? Just had a plumber come out to do a sewer line inspection and, when running the camera through the kitchen cleaning, he found a lot of gunk/buildup and was recommending it. Better just to have the pros do something like this? Seems pretty messy but maybe if you have a air compressor and proper fitting  you could make it happen? I'd be scared about causing damage though haha.

The line from our kitchen sink is long and poorly graded and constantly clogs up. I've successfully cleaned it many times by running the garden hose with a spray nozzle through it. I've not camera-inspected it, but it returns to function, so that's good enough for me.

I'd try one of these  https://www.harborfreight.com/large-drain-cleaning-bladder-99941.html  (or similar)  first.
Then I'd borrow or rent a power washer, if needed.  And I"d only use it in bursts.

Yes, you need to be concerned about damaging the drain pipe.

I have uncessessfully DIY hydrojetted my drain lines. I purchased a nozzle and flexible hose attachment for my small electric pressure washer, and thought I was pretty clever. But after running it through, I immediately sprang multiple leaks in my old galvanized pipes. I had to tear it out and replace with ABS.

So, what kind of drain pipes do you have, and are they easily accessible if you encounter a problem?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
