DIY Headboard?
« on: June 26, 2013, 12:36:36 PM »
There are a million DIY headboard/bedframe tutorials online, I know. I'd like to try my hand (okay, and the boyfriend's hand) at potentially making one that could attach to our existing metal bedframe, to make our bedroom look a little nicer without having to buy a whole new bed. Our style is a little minimalist/simple/modern and headboards of that variety on Craigslist are hard to find around here, at least for a reasonable price.

Is there a tutorial that anyone here can vouch for? Just something simple, wood, and inexpensive to make? Neither of us has much carpentry experience, hence the desire for simplicity.

Bonus points if you know a way to stop the casters on our bedframe from making our bed roll around the bedroom at the slightest push. Do they make caster locks or do we need to replace the casters themselves? For some reason, ours don't lock.

And try looking at ana-white.com
Plenty of ideas in there... I haven't made them personally, but I've read others using the site's plans and really liking them:

But all of these might be a bit more advanced than beginner, so YMMV.

And then there's Apartment Therapy (not just for apartments, just they focus on small spaces and the overall tone is modern/eclectic decorating, and some of them don't really require major power-tool work)

(I know it's not wood, but this is really nifty and looks both comfy to read in bed and minimalist)
