Last night our neighbor came over and said that our brake lights were still on on the Accord. Went out and looked, and, yep, they were on. Couldn't get them to turn off. My wife looked up a video on how to fix the problem, while I looked on forums to find out how to fix the problem. Between the two we learned that all it was was a broken plastic bushing on the brake pedal between the pedal and the brake light switch. Because the stores were closed, we put a small pad of paper in place to hold the switch so the battery didn't drain all night.
This morning I went to our local auto store (O'Reilly's) and bought the replacement bushing for $8 (I had a printed photo of what I needed). My wife then proceeded to put it in. The video gave good info, but the forum people gave the tip on how to install it that turned the total job into a 30 second job. I don't even want to think about what I'd been charged if I had gone to the dealer or even my mechanic.
