Car Maintenance and Tiny Details Exaggeration Syndrome
« on: June 10, 2014, 10:03:56 AM »
Nothing that I need help with, just a good example of almost taking my wife's car to the mechanic due to tiny details exaggeration syndrome.

I got a message from my wife yesterday that she noticed a burning smell in her car when she was driving back from Costco. My mind immediately started trains of thought like: "I'm not that great at car maintenance... could be an electrical problem... that would make it a huge safety hazard for my wife to be driving it... I'd better take her car the the mechanic IMMEDIATELY, like before she drives it again!"

When I got home from work I decided to take a quick peek under the car just to see if I could help locate the problem for the mechanic I was going to take it to...

And found a plastic bag melted to the exhaust system. Problem solved.

I had this happen to my car.  Stinky!

But also scary.  I once stopped to help put out a substantial fire under another car caused by a large plastic bag/exhaust blend.  Could have been so much worse. I carry an extinguisher in my car.
