Building a mustachian but kickass treehouse/clubhouse
« on: October 08, 2014, 10:43:20 AM »
My kids are 12, 10 and 5.5.  I want to build a cool fort/treehouse like this one: http://wellnessmama.com/19483/treehouse-exercise/ .  If you don't feel like clicking the link, it is a two story fort with a climbing wall on one side, slide on the other, partially roofed, with hammocks and hang out space underneath.  Part of the goal is for the kids to learn how to build real things.  Before they were born we gutted and re-did a house, so I have some, but not extensive and fairly rusty, carpentry experience.

The site doesn't have any real plans.  Suggestions for getting cheap materials?  Making or drawing up plans?  Are there any free building drawing programs that I could use with my kids to do the design?  We've used tinkerCAD but that is more for 3D printing than treehouse building.  I think I might be able to recruit our very mustachian plumber who also is a carpenter (and winters in FL every year) to supervise getting everything plumb and safe, but suggestions are welcome.
