So my wife had an idea for a coffee table and I said, I can do that.
I searched craigslist for a solid wood door and for free, old tables that had spindle legs (though I found this one in an alley). Then:
-Used a miter saw to cut the legs to length (we wanted the legs + the width of the door to be 18" high)
-Drilled two pocket screw holes in each table leg (you can get a pocket screw jig for $20 at Lowes or Home depot)
-Used self-tapping screws to attach each leg to a corner
With our $20 budget, it beats what we could buy at Ikea. :) Photo attached.

Nice! I like how you kept the door stuff on there. Very postmodern. ;)

Pretty cool, you could also have built it as an enclosed box and have to use the door to open to get stuff you are storing in it like blankets.

I love the table as is, but this idea is even more awesome... :D

Really cool!

Never have to worry about spillage onto the floor, ever.

Thanks for all the comments! I agree about the box/chest idea with the door hinging. Maybe I'll build that and see if it sells on craigslist.

Very good project! Thanks for sharing the picture too. One of my neighbors used a door like that for a desk. She put small file cabinets under each end and used the hole where the door knob had been to pass computer wires through...
