bicycle question
« on: June 02, 2016, 04:14:43 PM »
Forgive my noobishness! I just installed a rear electric kit on my bike. The wheel I installed was a bolt on and I had quick release on the non electric wheel. I now discovered the hook up I was using on my bike trailer wont fit on the bolt ?axle? (not sure of the term) of the new wheel. Does anyone know if bolt on wheels and quick release have different size axles? If so are there specific hookups for them? Im at a loss for what to do since the main reason I wanted to go electric was to haul stuff and increase my non car reliance.

Generally, ebike axles are fairly large.  I'm somewhat surprised the trailer won't hook over it, though.

Can you get pictures of the issue?

Worst case, there are other ways to hook up bike trailers.

Thanks for the reply! The trailer is a very old instep type and the coupler looks like the one in the link. I think I could pick up a round file and enlarge the hole to get it to fit, but I'm also not sure where to attach it as I already have a few washers and a torque arm on the axle. Maybe I can remove a washer? I'll post pictures of the issue tonight.

Ah, ok.  Yes, electric motor axles are generally wider, with flats cut to fit in the dropouts.

You could take a file to this, or you could find a different mount style.  I haven't looked into trailers much, sorry.
