Title: Best way to remove paint from wood exterior
Post by: Sibley on July 18, 2017, 08:39:50 PM
Fun project here. /s

1 1/2 car garage, wood. Older, some bad wood which I will be replacing. 3 of the sides have a new coat of paint. Problem is, the previous owners didn't scrape the peeling/chipping paint off BEFORE slapping a thick, gloppy coat of paint on top. It looks AWFUL. Truly awful. No lead paint luckily.

I tried scraping it off, and got nowhere fast. The paint on top basically glued the rest of it in place. I'm thinking of using a power washer to get the paint off.

Critique, improve, give me ideas and instructions please. I don't want to spend 6 months scraping the side of the garage.

Pressure washer will do the trick. No problems at all. I would ask around to borrow one before buying one. You can also rent them. Depending on the model/tip installed they will cut the wood in addition to removing paint so start a bit easy.
