Honda Accord Back Door Lock Latch Fix

Just seeing if anyone out there knows about fixing an automatic lock in a Honda.  One of the back door locks wont lock automatically.  If its unlocked and Im driving when I pick up speed the car tries to lock it and makes an annoying sound.  I have to keep manually locking.  I know Honda will crush me in their service department so trying to see if its possible to fix on my own.  Thanks for your time

Try searching the web and honda forums for your problem, it might be a short which is a pain to find if you don't know what you are looking for. If it is a relatively common problem, which it probably is seeing how many hondas are on the road, someone probably already fixed it and posted a youtube video on how to do it.

Most likely the plastic catches on the connecting rod from the lock actuator to the lock assembly have failed.  You may be able to find them in the Help! section of the local parts store.  Failing that, you can check junk yards.  Failing that, Amazon, Rock Auto, and EBay.

My 1994 Accord had this problem with a rear door actuator, and the mechanic supposedly replaced that whole unit.  Also my next door neighbor, incidentally, had the same problem.  Sounds like Honda's 16-years-newer models haven't really solved the problem.

Guitar stitch is probably on the right track in terms of DIY.  I think you'd have to take the door off, to get to it?
