Automotive Jump Starter Recommedations
« on: January 29, 2018, 10:03:11 PM »
Let's discuss jump starters. Any particular models you would recommend?

Personally I am not sold on the lithium type. Lithium batteries don't like to be kept fully charged. They also don't like to be kept in a hot area (i.e. car in summer time). I'm considering going with one of the larger gel cell types. Specifically the Jump-N-Carry JNCAIR model:

Seems to have a very good reputation. Battery is replaceable which is good. Also has a built in air compressor that seems decent based on the reviews. Any other comparable model in the $100 - $200 price range that you would recommend?

Update: Amazon currently has the model (JNC660) with less features (same amp rating, etc) for $99.

I have an older version of this one:

Also a Jump-n-carry.  Works great and is fine being left in the car and can jump a number of times before needing a recharge (at least that's our experience with a smaller car).

These ones seem pretty good. I haven't bought one yet, but if I do, I'll probably go with the 18,000 MaH model.

This morning Amazon lowered the Jump-N-Carry JNC660 model down to $99. I "jumped" on it. Same amps, etc as the higher priced JNC770 and JNCAIR models, just a slower charge rate and no air compressor. Was hard to justify twice the price for the built in air compressor.

The one I use costs only $10, last forever in all kinds of conditions from bone chilling cold to extreme heat. It also never needs charging and never wears out.

Or if it's the middle of winter and while you'd love to jump car A with car B, car B's hood is frozen shut...  I've been there.

I bought this one last year and it's been solid.  https://www.amazon.com/14000mAh-12-Volt-Portable-Emergency-Flashlight/dp/B01ERIFR3K/

I've found that those can't seem to hold a charge at all.
