The tiny little screen inside the portafilter(?) popped out and got lost down the drain and now my espressos taste terrible. I've been searching for hours on where to find a replacement filter or the whole thing with the handle and filter included, but can't find them anywhere. I can get a whole new machine in Amazon for $200, so I would think someone would be selling replacements for it. Does anyone know if a generic would work, and which one would fit?
Thanks!

Did you lose the portafilter basket?
The portafilter basket clicks into the portafilter. Pretty big to go down the drain I think, but hey maybe you've got a big sink hole.
Most any 52mm basket should work, but I think this is the one made for your machine.

On the other hand, this dude on a forum had really good results with a Krups basket.

I should add unless you're using a burr grinder, a pressurized portafilter will give you the most consistent results.
But you should know that you're only seeing the world in black and white with a pressurized portafilter (fewer perforations, concentrated in a small area in the middle). A burr grinder and a real portafilter (perforations throughout the bottom, not concentrated in the middle) will unlock the world of flavor.

Hmm thanks for the links, I'll try them. The basket looks different than mine, so I didn't know if it would fit. The one I have comes in parts, there is the part with the perforations like in that picture, and then under that, a plastic piece with a small screen in it clips on. The screen is what fell out. First I'll go with the Krups. Though I suppose at some point I should upgrade the whole machine

Not a bad idea, I have a Silvia with a PID and it serves me well. Might upgrade to a dual boiler but spending over 1000 on a machine seems a little excessive for me now that I type it on this forum.
Dual boilers and HX machines are nice for hosting to be able to make drinks back to back but aren't much of a benefit for my daily use.
I know some polymers are built for high temps, and I'll assume Mr Coffee is using those polymers there, but it still seems like a weird move to use plastic where 200 degree liquid flows. Never seen another portafilter design incorporate plastic anywhere but the handle.
