Aluminum Siding
« on: March 28, 2014, 11:07:46 AM »
There is one two-foot long piece of siding on my garage that was loosened during a storm a couple of days ago.  The bottom of the siding has come out and waves up and down in the wind.  I've searched on line and watched videos on how to use a tool to remove a section.  But I can't find any info on putting that piece back in.  Does anyone know what I should do?  Thanks.

The bottom of the loose piece should just pop back into the top of piece below it. They are intended to hook together.

Also see this picture http://buildipedia.com/images/masterformat/Channels/On_Site/2012.05.11_Insulated_Siding_Part_1/images/Insulated_Siding_Part_1_02.jpg. The picture shows vinyl siding, but the installation is very similar.  The picture shows how the bottom of the upper piece fits into the piece below.

If you need to renail the siding at all, make sure to use a large head roofing style of nail.  Also, it is important to hit a stud, and do not nail the siding tight to the wall.  The siding needs to be able to slide left and right, so that it will not buckle during expansion/contraction.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.  I'll give it another try.  And thanks for including the video.  It's a big help!
