Addition over Garage
« on: January 23, 2018, 01:43:14 PM »
I live in a bi-level split and am trying to convince my wife to let me put an addition over our garage and DIY all/most of it to add a bedroom (or 2) and a bathroom to our living space. Anyone have any recommendations or places to start planning?

Find out what code your area is under.

See what permitting will cost.

Determine the foundation type you have under the area that will support your addition... if the footers aren't wide enough, you might be in trouble. The code book will inform you on that.

If anything you want to do is not covered by the perscriptive code for your area, you may need to hire an engineer to get stamped drawings for the permits.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
