Installing new oven - what power cable?
« on: September 11, 2017, 10:50:31 AM »
Our oven has finally given up the ghost after lasting longer than we ever expected it to. I have the replacement in our kitchen, and am planning to wire it up myself. However, the manual specifies H05VV-FG cable, and the closest thing my local hardware store offers is H05VV-F cable. Can anyone advise if this is okay to use as a substitute, or does the missing G represent something crucial?

I used google to find;
SIGNAL & POWER DELIVERY SYSTEMS, the worlds premier power cord mfg.
They say most people associate H05VV-F harmonized power cable wire with Europe, our certifications include Australia, China, India, Korea and many other countries as well.

Google doesn't find H05VV-FG

I'd take the amperage of the oven to the store and ask them for the proper cable.

I came here expecting to help but I clearly don't know as much as I thought I did.

I thought this was going to be some kind of 3 prong vs 4 prong discussion.

I managed to get sorted out in the end (the joys of remembering that you have an electrician uncle). Thanks for taking a look to see if you could help - I appreciate that a debate on H05VV-FG versus H05VV-F is a bit esoteric!

I did end up speaking to another electrician, who advised that FG cable is extremely heatproofed, while F cable is not quite as heavy-duty. No matter now: we have our oven back and functional.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
