Hi my MMC (Money Mustache Community)

So my wife's company an All American Company has let (wink, wink) her retire after 18 years while sending the jobs to India.   Ok, fine - we are designing a plan to replace her income within three years with a travel blog.  Have you done this?  Were you successful?  Tips?  Advice!

We want to detail our joys, heartbreak and experiences along the way but need to talk to some folks because I imagine there will be lonely times along this journey.

We started the blog June 19, 2019.

THE GOOD NEWS!
We can fly anywhere!  For Little of No Money
I run three other websites and understand HTML Code and Word Press!
We were travel guides to the Mediterranean for years taking groups to Turkey, Europe, Israel Egypt so there are plenty of photographs from travel when we were younger!  Lots of stories.

NOW FOR YOUR ADVICE
Can we monetize the site in three years?  Made $10.44 in affiliate sales in 1st month.
In one month -Ahrefs moved our rank from 0 to 9/100.  Your experiences?
How did you get backlinks as a small guy?
How did you grow you social media presence?
We are publishing the strength of our travel site with Stats-support from our Followers/Tribe.  How are we doing?
How did you improve your keyword choices and were you succesful in making your google rankings higher?
Did you have fun and did you enjoy your experiences?

We really want to know and will update these and other experiences in the next three years?  Will you join us in discovey and Travel These Stones with us?

THANKS JAMIE AND CLAIRE

Definitely following as I started a blog but haven't done much with it yet and wondering is it possible to make money with it and how. Of course I don't really know HTML or all the SEO stuff that goes along with it

I definity believe in sharing the knowledge I gain.  Tell me about your site. Do you add to content every day?  And are you using key phrases to tell google what your blogging about?  And are your key words (a phrase really) answering the questions you think people are asking?  For example, I wrote a blog about Albufeira Portugal and used that key word phrase until I discovered the number one question people were asking of Portugal was "where is a good place to stay in portugal with kids?  Who knew.  I'll be honest I haven't changed my key phrase yet but I will and I'll rewrite the content to more accurately answer that question that gets 100s upon 100s of hits a month.  Please Travel These Stones with Jamie and Claire.

Thanks for the interest folks,

Some general observations:
1.  Always have a competitor to follow and mimic - keywords, metrics for backlinds etc.
2.  Keep writing - many blogs take off after time - time is the due you pay.
3.  Think not only of questions being asked of goodle today but will these questions be important three years from now.
4.  Use AHREFS to do a site audit and fix the issues they find on your site - Ive gone from 3, to 10 , 16 to 19% error free and I've got a lot of work to do.
5. Use SpyFu to learn about your competitors, where they rank what key words they excel at and then go after back links -  organic growth is the best.
6.  Note it is not only a ranking on a website but on your individual posts you are after.
7.  I am publishing my growth in followers and starting this month the number of backlinks so I can see my own progress and I post it on my sidebar.  I also update my top 15 competitors and make myself the 15th by comparison
