We were watching Jasper burn while packing bags, fueling up the vehicle, and making plans to flee as a fire here got closer and closer. The Evac alert stopped at the edge of town, but it was post 2 am before anyone felt settled enough to fall asleep. Woke up to (thankfully) pouring rain and the winds had shifted. Smoke has still been too bad for the water bombers, so it is still not under control, and we are hoping that the winds don't kick it back up. Only 6 homes and some outbuildings at one of the Timber frame operations have been lost so far.
First time fire has been this close since we have been here, and it was NOT a good feeling watching the sky start to glow brighter and brighter as the winds continued to howl.
The Alertable app is quiet so far tonight, so hopefully we get a good night's sleep, and they get things under control soon.
